Singapore AI studio
Singapore AI studio: what one does, and how to choose one
"AI studio" is a young label and it is used for at least four different kinds of business. If you are trying to work out who should build the AI system your operation runs on, the label will not tell you - the questions below will. Olano is one of these firms, so read this as an interested party being specific rather than a neutral survey.
Looking for Google AI Studio? That is a different thing - a developer tool for building with Google's Gemini models. This page is about AI studios as a kind of firm: companies that design and build AI systems for other businesses.
What an AI studio is
A studio takes responsibility for a working system rather than for a deliverable. The distinction sounds like positioning and turns out to be the whole thing: a studio's job is not finished when software is handed over, it is finished when the work the software was supposed to do is actually getting done. In practice that means the engagement includes the unglamorous parts - mapping how the work happens today, connecting to systems that were never designed to be connected to, deciding what the system is allowed to do without asking, training the people who will live with it, and staying on afterwards while reality tests the design.
The four things called "AI studio" in Singapore
- Creative and marketing studios - AI-generated video, images, ad creative, and increasingly search and answer-engine work. Real craft, entirely different discipline. If you need campaign assets, this is who you want, and nothing below applies.
- Product companies with a services wrapper - a SaaS platform plus onboarding. Fast and cheap when your workflow looks like the one the product was built for. Frustrating when it does not, because the gap between your process and the product's assumptions is yours to absorb.
- Systems integrators and dev shops - they will build what you specify, well, and hand it over. Excellent if you already know exactly what you want and have someone in-house to own it afterwards.
- AI studios in the sense used here - they design the system around your operation, build the connections, set the governance, and keep operating it. You are buying an outcome and an ongoing relationship, not a project.
None of these is the right answer in general. They are answers to different questions, and the expensive mistake is buying one while needing another.
The questions that separate them
Ask any candidate these and the category resolves itself quickly:
- "What happens when it gets something wrong?" A serious answer describes approval gates, an audit trail, and who is accountable - not better prompts. IMDA's governance framework for agentic AI is explicit that humans remain accountable for what an autonomous system does, so this is a governance question, not a quality one.
- "Which of my systems will it actually connect to, and how?" The honest answer names your CRM, your inventory, your calendar, your document store, and says which need custom integration work. The unserious answer is a logo wall.
- "Where does our data live, and who else is in the same environment?" Shared multi-tenant infrastructure is a legitimate architecture and a different risk profile from an isolated per-client environment. You want to know which you are buying.
- "Can we leave?" What you keep if the relationship ends - the configuration, the documents, the data, the ability to point the system at a different model provider.
- "What would you talk us out of?" A studio that has never declined a project is a studio that will build you anything, which is not the same as building you the right thing.
- "What does month six look like?" Most AI systems fail quietly in month three, when the person who championed it moves on and nobody owns it. Ask who is watching it.
Other routes, and where they fit
Three cases come up often:
- Your workflow is standard. If what you need is a booking system, a help desk, or a newsletter tool, a mature product covers it. Under EDGE the listed-solution route exists precisely for this.
- You are still exploring. IMDA's GenAI Sandbox for SMEs lets businesses trial curated tools before committing budget, which is a useful way to find out what you want.
- You have a capable technical team and a clear spec. A dev shop that builds to your spec, with ownership kept in-house, fits that case.
How Olano works
We are the fourth kind. An engagement is one managed relationship rather than a build-and-hand-over: we map the workflow, design the system around it, connect it to what you already use, build custom integrations where the connection does not exist yet, launch it with approvals and safeguards in place, train your team, then monitor and keep improving it. Systems run on the channels your customers and staff already use - WhatsApp, Telegram, email, Slack, webhooks, internal tools - with persistent memory, 450+ connector tools, 75+ built-in integrations, and each client in their own isolated environment.
Three things we hold to. Approvals before anything leaves - outbound messages, payments and public posts wait for a human by default, and every action is recorded in an audit trail. No per-seat pricing, because charging you more for telling more of your team about it is a bad incentive. And no model lock-in - systems route work across 18+ providers, you control which model handles what and where it runs, and you can bring your own keys.
We are Singapore-based and work with teams worldwide; every system is deployed and managed remotely. Scoping is a fixed proposal after an initial consultation, before any work begins. The six services an engagement is built from are on the services page, and the platform underneath is documented at olano.ai.

FAQ
What is the difference between an AI studio and an AI agency?
In practice the labels overlap, and in Singapore "AI agency" more often means creative and marketing work - AI video, images, ad creative and search visibility - while "AI studio" more often means building operational systems. The label is unreliable either way, so ask what the firm is accountable for after launch: campaign assets, a handed-over build, or a system that keeps working.
Is an AI studio the same as a software development agency?
No, though the work overlaps. A dev shop builds what you specify and hands it over, which is the right choice when you have a clear spec and someone in-house to own the result. A studio in this sense decides what to build with you, sets the governance around what it is allowed to do, and stays on to operate it.
How much does an AI studio engagement cost in Singapore?
Every engagement is scoped individually, because the cost is driven by the workflows involved, the integrations required, the operating volume and the ongoing management. After an initial consultation we provide a fixed proposal before any work begins, and AI usage runs within spending controls agreed in advance. There is no per-seat pricing.
Can a Singapore AI studio project be grant-funded?
A custom system is the kind of project assessed on its merits under the EDGE Grant rather than matched to a catalogue listing. We scope and document projects so an assessor or corporate advisor can evaluate them, but we are not a pre-approved catalogue vendor, we do not apply on your behalf, and we never promise an outcome. See our grant funding page for the current position.
